First Responders
Therapy for First Responders in Georgia
You know the debrief after the call. This is the one for the calls that stay with you.
I offer after-hours online therapy for police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, 911 dispatchers, corrections officers, and nurses across Georgia. Sessions are by secure video in early mornings, evenings, and on weekends, so they fit around shifts instead of the other way around.
When the job follows you home
Most first responders I work with are still doing their jobs well. What brings them in is the cost of keeping it that way. You might notice:
- Trouble sleeping, or replaying calls when you finally lie down
- A shorter fuse with your partner or kids than you used to have
- Feeling numb or flat on days off
- Staying on alert in places that should feel safe
- Drinking more to come down after a shift
- One call that won’t let go, even if it wasn’t the worst one
None of this means you’re weak or in the wrong career. It means you’ve been carrying a lot, often without a place to put it down.
What we’ll work on
Therapy here is direct and practical. We’ll focus on what you want to be different, whether that’s sleeping through the night, being more present at home, or making peace with a specific call. I use evidence-based approaches for trauma, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and you set the pace. You won’t be asked to relive more than helps.
Why I do this work
I’ve spent my career as a forensic interviewer and trauma therapist, working alongside law enforcement, prosecutors, and child protective services. I still do that work today. I know what it’s like to carry cases home, and I know the culture: dark humor, “I’m fine,” and not wanting to burden the people you love with what you saw. You won’t have to explain the job to me.
Privacy and your career
- I don’t bill insurance, so no diagnosis is sent to an insurance company.
- Nothing is shared with your department or employer without your written permission, apart from legal exceptions I’ll explain at the start.
- I don’t do fitness-for-duty evaluations. Therapy here is for you, not for your agency.
- There’s no pressure to leave a career you care about.
