About
Debrief Counseling
I’m Elise Colquitt, LCSW, and I’ve spent my career in rooms where people are telling the hardest things they’ve ever said out loud.
Before starting Debrief Counseling, I worked as a forensic interviewer and trauma therapist in child advocacy centers, where I collaborated with law enforcement, prosecutors, medical providers, and child protective services. I’ve delivered trauma-focused treatment, trained professionals, and testified in cases involving crimes against children. That work taught me how trauma actually shows up in a person, and what it costs the people who respond to it.
I still work as a forensic interviewer today, and I know what it’s like to carry work home. I know how heavy the weight of cases can be. That is why I’m especially glad to work with first responders and other helping professionals, and with people whose lives have been reshaped by chronic illness or a major transition.

How I work
You don’t have to be the strong one here. This is a space where you can be honest about where you are and how work, illness, or life changes are affecting you, without worrying about being judged or seen as weak.
I’m direct, warm, and unhurried. I’ll tell you what I’m seeing and why I’m suggesting something, and I’ll ask what’s working for you. I draw on evidence-based approaches for trauma and stress, chosen to fit your unique needs. You set the pace, and we don’t relive more than you’re ready to.
